This page says what HighBeam collects when you use the launcher, a HighBeam server, the server list or this website, and what happens to it.
Who we are
HighBeam makes the HighBeam launcher, the HighBeam server software, the server list and this website. Questions about your data go to [email protected].
When you sign in
You sign in on Steam's own page. We never see your Steam password. Steam tells us your Steam ID (the public number of your Steam account), and we read your public Steam profile.
We keep:
- Your Steam ID
- Your name: your Steam name, or the name you pick in HighBeam
- The link to your Steam profile picture
- When your account was made
- A sign-in token, stored scrambled, so you stay signed in
We don't ask for your email, a password or any payment details.
The server list
Servers send the list their name, address, map, mode, how many people are on, and the names of the players on them. The list is public: anyone can see it on this website and in the launcher. While you're on a listed server, your name shows next to it.
When you play on a server
Servers are run by their owners, not by us. The server you join gets your Steam ID, your name, your IP address, your cars and where they are, your chat messages and your voice while you talk. Its owner can keep logs, and bans and admins go by Steam ID. Each server's owner decides what they keep, so ask them about it.
Voice chat
When you hold G, your voice goes through the server to the other players on it, as you talk, and sounds louder to the ones close to you. The HighBeam server software doesn't save it.
Logs
Our server list keeps logs of the requests it gets, with IP addresses, so we can run it, stop abuse and fix problems. We can block addresses that abuse it.
The launcher on your PC
The launcher keeps your sign-in, your settings and its logs on your PC. It checks downloads.highbeam.gg for updates. Its logs stay on your PC, except the end of them that goes with a crash report.
Crash reports
When the launcher, HighBeam's mod in the game or a HighBeam server runs into an error, it sends us a crash report so we can fix it. A report holds the error, where in HighBeam it happened, the versions of HighBeam and BeamNG.drive, your PC's system (like Windows and how many processor cores it has) and the end of the launcher's and the game's logs.
Before a report leaves your PC, the launcher takes out your name, your Windows user name, Steam IDs, IP addresses and passwords. Each install puts a random ID in its reports, not linked to your account, so we can count how many PCs a problem happens on.
Turn crash reports off in the launcher's settings, under About HighBeam. Server owners turn them off with crash_reports=false in server.cfg.
This website
This website is hosted by Cloudflare. It counts visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and doesn't follow you to other sites. The website sets no cookies and shows no ads.
Who else gets your data
We don't sell your data. We use these services to run HighBeam:
- Valve (Steam), for sign-in and your Steam profile
- Cloudflare, which hosts this website, the downloads and the server list's network
- The company that hosts our server list
- Sentry, which stores crash reports for us
We give data to the police or a court only when the law makes us.
How long we keep it
We keep your account while you use HighBeam. We keep logs only as long as we need them to run and protect the server list. Crash reports are deleted after 90 days at most.
Your choices
- Change your name in the launcher's settings.
- Ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it or to delete your account: write to [email protected].
Children
HighBeam is for people old enough to have a Steam account (13, or older where your country says so).
Changes
If this policy changes, we update this page and the date at the top.
