Players say the game stutters or crashes on my server
- 1Lower
botsinconfigs/server.cfg.Every player's PC draws every car on the server. About 25 cars or more, players and traffic together, needs more than 6 GB of video memory (VRAM) on each player's PC.
- 2If it's still too much, lower
max_playerstoo. - 3Start the server again.
My server isn't on the list
- 1Wait a minute after starting.
- 2Check port 27015 is open for both TCP and UDP, on the PC's firewall and on your router.
- 3Check
private=falseinconfigs/server.cfg. - 4Look in the server window for lines about the master. They say what went wrong.
Players can't join
- 1Make sure the port is open (see above). Players connect on the same port.
- 2Is
whitelist=true? Then only players inwhitelist.cfgcan join. - 3Is there a
password? Players need to type it. - 4Is the server full? Raise
max_players.
Players get kicked when they join
Look in the server window. It says why: banned, wrong password, full, or an old HighBeam that needs to update.
The map doesn't load
Check the spelling of map=. For a map from a mod, the mod's zip must be in mods, and the name must be the zip's name without .zip, or a folder in its levels folder. The server window warns you when it doesn't know the map.
A mod doesn't download
It has to be a .zip file, straight in the mods folder (not in a folder inside it). Restart or type reloadmods after adding it.
No traffic
Set bots above 0. Traffic needs the map's roads, which the first player's game sends to the server, so the cars appear a few seconds after someone joins.
Games are slow with traffic
Each player's game draws the traffic near them. Lower bots, or lower bot_range so cars only drive near players.
Something else
The server writes everything to the logs folder, one file per day. The newest one tells you what happened.
